More than 35 million viewers in total have watched President Macron’s 20-minutes speech on Monday evening at 8. With an audience of almost 13 million viewers, TF1 was the most watched channel on this occasion. France 2 and M6 came second and third with 9.55 and 3.74 million viewers respectively.

Desperate measures

The French President announced a national lockdown and ordered extraordinary measures in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus among the French population. These measures have been taken at a time when the number of cases and infections has been on the rise in France and has an unparalleled impact on Paris stock exchange.

While the President's televised address has been followed by many viewers, television is not the preferred source of information for French people.
