As of March 2020, the metropolitan region of Santiago is the one that have the largest number of hospitals in Chile, with 772 medical centers. It was followed by Los Lagos, with 383 hospitals. As of March 19, 2020, Chile was the Latin American country with the second largest number of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).
