The Romanian research association Ad-Astra publishes a report on the best universities in Romania on an annual basis, taking into consideration national criteria, as well as international rankings. The best university in 2024 was Babeș-Bolyai University from Cluj-Napoca, with 23.7 points, followed by the University of Bucharest and the Politehnica University from Bucharest, with 22.4 and 21.2 points respectively. When it comes to high schools, according to the School Inspectorate of the Bucharest Municipality, the National College "Grigore Moisil" was the best high school in Romania’s capital based on the Baccalaureate exam and seven other performance criteria.

PISA score

The Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a study developed by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development that is repeated every three years, with the purpose of assessing 15-year-old school pupils’ performances in mathematics, science and reading. In 2022, Romania recorded a low PISA score in all three categories and was at least 50 points lower compared to the OECD average.
