The highest number of students enrolled in higher education units in Romania was in the academic year 2011-2012, with a total of approximately 871,800 students. By contrast, the lowest number of individuals enrolled in post-secondary education in Romania was recorded in the 2016-2017 school year, at 531,600. By 2023-2024, the number of students was 545,000, with 61,000 in the private sector.
