The steady rise of cannabis use in Belgium from 2001 to 2018 went hand in hand with a steady rise of use in Belgium's three regions. With almost a third of people having used cannabis at least once in their lifetime, the Brussels-Capital Region housed the highest number of cannabis users in 2018.
Meanwhile, Flanders and Wallonia shared similar figures. However, Wallonia who started with the least users in 2001, surpassed Flanders in 2013. In 2018, whilst Wallonia registered ** percent of users, Flanders closely followed with **** percent of users. Nonetheless, these figures related to people having consumed cannabis at least once in their lifetime and do not provide information on the frequency of this use.
