Paper and cardboard packaging had the highest recycling rate in the European Union (EU-27) in 2023, reaching 87 percent. Metallic and glass packaging also showed strong performance, with recycling rates of 77.2 percent and 74.9 percent, respectively. In contrast, the recycling rate of plastic packaging in the EU averaged just **** percent in 2023, although rates vary widely between countries.Â
