In a survey conducted between 2018 and 2019, about ** percent of the people interviewed in Jamaica said a military coup would be justifiable in case of high crime. This was the highest level of tolerance of military coups due to crime in all the Latin American and Caribbean countries surveyed. At the other end of the spectrum, less than ** percent of the voting-age adults interviewed in Uruguay would justify a military coup in case of high levels of crime.
