The source defines digital game developer as a company or business with one person or more who does one or more of the following: a) develops digital games for mobile platforms (smartphone / tablet), computer, web, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (RA), social networks or console, for profit and non-profit, as a primary or secondary activity; b) develops entire games or does game development services for clients or partners. They may also perform other activities.
During a 2018 survey carried out among digital game developers in Brazil it was found that the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro together held **** percent of the total developers, showing that the highest concentration of the gaming industry was in the Rio de Janeiro-São Paulo axis.
