In 2022, the cannabis use among adults in Spain was highest among the youngest age group, with 23 percent of people aged 15 to 24 years reporting to have used cannabis in this period. The corresponding share for the age group from 25 to 34 years old was 15.9 percent.
Spain ranked number four in 2022 with regard to the prevalence of cannabis use in Europe, with 10.6 percent of its population having consumed cannabis within the past twelve months. The most commonly used types of cannabis in Spain in 2024 were CBD and THC flowers and buds, each consumed by around five percent of the population.Â
The market size for CBD in Spain was estimated to be 119 million euros in 2022, whereas the market size of the cannabis for medical use was only four million euros. As for the market share, CBD captured 96 percent of the total cannabis market, while the rest was occupied by medically used cannabis. The market share of cannabis for medical use was much lower in Spain than other major European countries in 2022.Â
