Russian coal import volume in the EU 2018-2023
European Union (EU) countries imported 12.66 million metric tons of coal from Russia in 2023, a half of the volume imported in the previous year. In response to the war in Ukraine, the EU banned coal imports from Russia starting from August 11, 2022. Over the observed period, the import volume peaked at 64.8 million metric tons in 2018.
