In February 2018, the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro led the ranking of number of cell phones that were blocked as a result of loss or theft, with devices per 10,000 inhabitants. São Paulo ranked second, with devices blocked every 10,000 inhabitants. The record is kept based on the number of unique IMEI codes blocked.
