Silk in India

Profitable sector - silk 

As the second largest producer of raw silk producer, the south Asian country exported silk worth over ** billion Indian rupees in fiscal year 2019. The Indian government has allocated over ** billion Indian rupees to develop sericulture under the central sector scheme Silk Samagra for the years 2017 to 2020. The Indian Silk Export Promotion Council, a non-profit organization, sponsored by the government, works on policy formulation concerning the silk sector.
