India had over *** thousand metric tons of tasar silk production in fiscal year 2024. Tasar silk is a coarse variety of silk largely produced across Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal in India. It was harvested by tribal people from different species of silkworms largely in wild forests, and hence considered a forest product.
