How many tourists become too many? Though it is a difficult measure to quantify, residents of various popular destinations around the world, and especially in Europe, are starting to voice their discomfort with the number of visitors to their area. In Spain, particularly, massive protests against tourists have taken place in popular destinations like Barcelona, the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, and Sevilla, among others. Here, the locals denounced price increases in housing and cost of living, as well as the disrespect of some visitors to local traditions and culture, and the danger of overcrowding to the environment.
