Higher education in India - statistics & facts
Home to the largest youth population, India also hosts a sizeable higher education ecosystem. With over 40 million students, the demographic advantage translates to a huge opportunity for the higher education market in the country. The higher education network comprises central and state universities, colleges that may or may not be affiliated with universities, institutions of national importance such as Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) or All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and professional institutions focused on specialized or vocational training. Privately managed institutions now form over 40 percent of the total landscape. Size, however, is only one part of the story.
