Plastics industry in Europe - statistics & facts
Plastics production in Europe reached 54.6 million metric tons in 2024, a marginal recovery after a period of contraction that had stretched back to 2018. Europe’s output now represents 12 percent of worldwide supply, a share that has fallen steadily from 20 percent in 2014 as production has shifted toward Asia, according to data on Europe’s global production share. Total global plastic production reached 430.9 million metric tons in 2024, with China alone accounting for 34.5 percent of that total.
