IT industry in Japan - statistics and facts
The Japanese information technology (IT) industry has come into increasing focus in recent years as various political, economic, and social developments have driven demand for digital solutions. More companies, for instance, are adopting cloud services to reduce costs and improve their business operations, which has led to a strong growth of the cloud services market. Workstyle reforms and the COVID-19 pandemic encouraged the introduction of remote work options, making it necessary for companies to invest in the respective tools and network security solutions. New legal requirements, such as a new invoice system in 2023 or newly activated parts of the Electronic Bookkeeping Preservation Act in 2024, likewise contributed to increased IT spending. As a result of these and other factors, domestic IT investments reached a whopping 21.9 trillion Japanese yen in fiscal year 2023, of which digital transformation (DX) investments made up around 4.1 trillion yen.
