The tourism sector has become one of the most significant contributors to a country's growth and economic development. In 2024, Romania’s tourism sector accounted for almost five percent of the country’s GDP. Romania's unique relief features, including the Carpathian Mountains, the Black Sea, the Danube Delta, and numerous wooded areas, rivers, and lakes, make the country one of the most intriguing tourist destinations in Europe. Romania also boasts several UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the Churches of Moldova, Maramures, and Transylvania, as well as several Dacian Fortresses and the Danube Delta. In the first half of 2025, 8,466 tourist accommodation establishments hosted nearly 5.8 million tourists.
