Nuclear power in France - statistics & facts

If the first commercial nuclear reactor became operational in 1963, French electronuclear development sped up in the early 1980s. Indeed, 15 reactors were implemented in the electric grid in France between 1980 and 1981. As of May 2023, France owned the second largest nuclear park in the world. However, France has included decreasing its nuclear electricity generation share among its main energy transition targets for 2025.
