The European insurance industry is the second largest worldwide, accounting for almost one third of premiums written during 2018 globally. Between 2016 and 2018, the value of direct premiums written in Europe has increased by more than 125 billion euros. The insurance industry in Europe is split into two main categories, life insurance and non-life insurance.
