The homebuilder industry in the United States consists of several large public residential construction companies. These public companies operate in most of the United States, except in the Northeast, where small, privately financed builders are more common. Apart from major players, there are a plethora of small builders in the United States that tend to focus on niche markets. Larger builders also tend to focus on one specific sector, such as luxury homes or entry-level homes. However, in comparison to smaller players, larger industry companies are capable of obtaining debt and equity financing for large land purchases and construction projects. These companies tend to expand their operations and purchase smaller builders during times of economic prosperity.
