Whitbread is a company based in the United Kingdom that was originally formed in 1782 when Samuel Whitbread partnered with Godfrey and Thomas Shewell and acquired a small brewery in London. The company would go on to produce porter on a commercial scale and become the largest brewery in the world in the 1780s. In the 20th century, Whitbread diversified into hospitality holdings and invested in new ventures such as Pizza Hut, Berni Inns, and TGI Fridays. The company decided to sell all of its breweries at the beginning of the 21st century and its current operations include Premier Inn, Beefeater, Table Table, Brewers Fayre, and Whitbread Inns. In 2021/22, the annual revenue of Whitbread worldwide was 1.7 billion British pounds.
