Cracker Barrel Old Country Store - statistics & facts
As is evident in the name, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store’s overarching theme is that of old-school Southern hospitality. From having peg solitaire on every table to decorating its establishments with local artifacts, the full service restaurant chain aims to replicate a welcoming, rural store. One of its unique selling points is that it is not only a restaurant but also a retail shop. While this novelty brings in customers, Cracker Barrel’s restaurants remain the company’s most profitable segment, generating over 80 percent of the firm’s revenue in 2025.
How successful is Cracker Barrel?
The company has seen modest but consistent growth over the past decade, except for the pandemic years. In 2025, Cracker Barrel’s total revenue reached almost 3.5 billion U.S. dollars, increasing by about 640 million U.S. dollars in the past 10 years. When looking at the leading U.S. full service restaurant chains by sales in 2024, Cracker Barrel fell firmly in the middle of the ranking, with market leader Texas Roadhouse raking in almost double the amount of sales. That said, while its restaurants saw revenue growth in 2025, its stores saw a decline. In that year, the number of Cracker Barrel establishments totaled 657, down from its record of 664 stores reached in 2021. This is likely due to various factors, including a reduction in foot traffic (some older customers have not returned post-pandemic), a lack of product innovation, and reduced cultural relevance among modern consumers.
How popular is Cracker Barrel?
While Cracker Barrel did place in a ranking of the most popular dining brands in the U.S., it, again, sat firmly in the middle of its competitors, with 63 percent of consumers saying they liked the brand. Additionally, it received an American Customer Satisfaction Index score of 80 out of 100 in 2025, this time ranking in the top five. That said, this did show a decline over the previous year’s score. To boost traffic and sales in the future, Cracker Barrel has initiated strategies including resonating with younger/new customers by modernizing its image, innovating and streamlining its menu for simplicity, remodeling its stores, and cultivating its digital presence. It seems that the real challenge for the company will be moving into the future without compromising the legacy of homey Southern nostalgia that is an intrinsic part of its brand.
