Artificial intelligence in American education - statistics & facts
The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the American education system has rapidly accelerated in recent years; after the 2022 release of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, schools and universities in the United States inevitably faced the challenge of figuring out how to address and incorporate such technologies into the classroom. Although AI usage already existed in the education sector for many years prior, particularly as popular learning management systems including Canvas, Google Classroom, and Turnitin, the rise of generative AI symbolized a new era of education technology in which students and educators could complete schoolwork, develop lesson plans, and even create complex imagery in seconds through any given prompt online. Recent research reveals that the majority of high school and middle school students were using AI on a regular basis in the U.S, with over half of American teenagers reporting the use of generative AI chatbots, text generators, and AI-powered search engines to aid their school assignments as well.
