Bulgaria is a popular tourism destination in Europe, and it is gaining more attention from travelers from all over the world. The travel sector is a major contributor to the Bulgarian economy, with the absolute contribution of tourism estimated to increase by over 20 percent between 2025 and 2029. The fact that Bulgaria joined the Schengen Area in 2025 could favor the industry by making it easier for travelers from outside the European Union (EU) to visit the country. In that year, tourism was forecast to account for around 10 percent of Bulgaria's gross domestic product (GDP).
