Plastics industry in Germany - statistics & facts
Accounting for over 20 percent of Europe’s demand for plastics, Germany was the leading fossil-based plastic producer in the region as of 2023. A notable shift took place within the industry in that year, as overall production in the country fell from 13.8 million tons in 2022 to 12.7 million tons in 2023, with polyethylene and polypropylene the most commonly produced polymers. Germany's plastics production volume decrease mirrors that of Europe, as annual production on the continent fell year-on-year between 2021 and 2023.
