Global graphite mining industry - statistics & facts
A crystalline allotrope of carbon and the most stable form of carbon, graphite is consumed on a large scale globally for several important industrial and energy transition applications. In 2023, the worldwide graphite demand for electric vehicles and battery storage amounted to 1.29 million metric tons, or about 28 percent of total demand. By 2030, it is forecast in the Net Zero Emissions scenario that a 65 percent share of global graphite demand will be attributed to clean energy uses. As of 2023, graphite reserves amounted to 280 million metric tons worldwide, while the was an estimated 1.6 million metric tons.
