State of health in Norway - statistics and facts
Norway, due to its outstanding healthcare system and the overall health of its population, had Europe’s best ranked health index score in 2023. Narrowly scoring higher than its Nordic neighbors Sweden and Iceland. The score is calculated by evaluating various indicators that assess the health of the population, and access to the services required to sustain good health, including health outcomes, health systems, sickness and risk factors, and mortality rates. Furthermore, the active lifestyle practiced by many Norwegians is also said to contribute to the overall good health of the country. Indeed, around three-quarters of the population reported themselves to be in good health. Although this figure has been slightly dropping over the past decade. Norway had one of the highest per capita health expenditures worldwide in 2023, only spending less than the United States and Switzerland when compared to other OECD countries.
