Cardiovascular disease in Norway - statistics and facts
Cardiovascular diseases are disorders of the heart and circulatory system that are frequent in the Norwegian population. Chronic ischemic heart disease, heart attack, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, stroke, and cerebral infarction are common types of cardiovascular disease. Between 2008 and 2021, men died from cardiovascular disease at more than double the rate of women in Norway. In 2021, there were 52 deaths per hundred thousand men and 21 deaths per hundred thousand women. In that year, ischemic heart disease, also known as coronary disease, was the cause of approximately 20 deaths per hundred thousand inhabitants. Approximately 90 thousand individuals were hospitalized in Norway due to heart disease between 2012 and 2021.
