State of health in Sweden - statistics & facts
In 2023, a girl born in Sweden could be expected to live almost 85 years, while a boy born in the same year had a life expectancy of just over 81 years. In recent years, life expectancy in Sweden has increased year-on-year for both genders. The share of the Swedish population who regarded themselves to be in good health was fairly high in 2022, although did decrease among older age groups. At that time, 75 percent of men aged between 35 and 44 years of age said they were in good health, compared to 55 percent of men in the 75 to 84 years age group. Sweden spent 10.7 percent of GDP on healthcare in 2022, which was one of the highest shares across Europe, but behind countries such Germany, France, the UK, and Switzerland.
