The divisiveness of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policy within the realms of social and political debate in the United States has become palpable. Despite this, law firms have continued to publish diversity reports. The legal profession in the United States is still perceived to be somewhat behind other industries when it comes to diversity and inclusion, particularly in more senior positions within law firms. In 2024, the employee gender distribution at law firms in the United States indicated that less than 30 percent of partner positions were filled by women. Furthermore, the share of non-white equity partners at law firms in the United States stood at 5.8 percent in the same year. This has demonstrated that there is a significant underrepresentation of women and non-white employees at U.S. law firms, hence the demands and general interest for these diversity figures to be made public.
