By far, the Taliban was the most active terrorist organization in the world in 2020. Over 1,900 Taliban attacks were registered that year, over 1,500 more than the second most active perpetrator, the Houthi extremists in Yemen. With 389 attacks, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) was the third most active perpetrator that year. That year, Afghanistan was the country in where the highest number of terrorist attacks was registered.
