This statistic displays the volume of thermal energy produced in Italy in 2017, by technology and source. Notwithstanding fossil fuels were used only in cogeneration and traditional production, they represented the main source of thermal energy. The process of combined heat and power (CHP), for instance, required fossil fuels to produce gigawatt hours of energy and renewables for the generation of gigawatt hours of it.
