Andhra Pradesh was the largest producer of chilies in the fiscal year 2024 among other states across India. The production volume amounted to over one million metric tons that year. This was followed by Telangana and Madhya Pradesh. India produced more than two million metric tons of chili during that year.

Chili production

India is famous for a variety of spice production. Chili, also known as mirchi in Hindi, is one of the most well-known spices without which Indian food is incomplete. There are about 400 different types of chilies produced across the country. Besides, the overall economic contribution of chilies was over 130 billion Indian rupees in the financial year 2020.

India is one of the largest consumers of chili. Green chilies are a healthy addition to the cuisines as they are rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene.
