Primary energy production from landfill gas has continuously declined in Italy. Between 2013 and 2018, figures decreased by 69 metric kilotons of oil equivalent.

In 2018, Italy's primary energy production from landfill gas was the second highest among the EU-28 members, amounting to 334 metric kilotons of oil equivalent. The 28 European Union members had a primary energy production of 2,429 metric kilotons of oil equivalent.
