Primary energy production from biogas presented a trend of growth despite some oscillation. Between 2013 and 2018, figures increased by 18 metric kilotons of oil equivalent, peaking at 85 metric tons of oil equivalent in 2017.
In 2018, primary energy production from biogas in Portugal amounted to 83 metric kilotons of oil equivalent. In that same year, the 28 European Union members produced a total of 16,839 metric kilotons of oil equivalent.
