While Germany is the fourth most visited country among Swedes, Germany is the leading inbound travel market for Sweden. German tourists made approximately *** million overnight stays in 2024, while *** million overnight stays came from Norwegian travelers. Visitors from Denmark spent the third-most nights in Sweden, amounting to around *** million overnight stays in the same year.Â
Domestic tourism
Domestic tourism was more important, as the overnight stays registered in Sweden that came from international tourists accounted for **** million. With the former coronavirus crisis, it appears that Swedes had started vacationing even more at home. When asked about which countries they would visit during the pandemic, Sweden was the most stated answer among the respondents, followed by Spain.
