Between January and September 2022, **** percent of consumers who watched a video program on a video-on-demand platform did it on Netflix. Amazon Prime came in second position with **** percent of respondents, while Disney+ managed to obtain the third position about three years after its launch in France in April 2020.

The video-on-demand market has known an unprecedented boom over the past few years in France, thus changing the way viewers consume video content online. More than half the population watch a program on a VOD platform at least once a month, among them **** percent every day. That phenomenon is also visible in terms of market value as it has significantly increased and now approaches *** billion euros.
Impact of the coronavirus outbreak on VOD consumption
The coronavirus outbreak had multiple effects on French people’s daily lives, including the way they consume media. People were understandably more inclined to use a VOD platform or subscribe to a new one as lockdown measures were set up by the French government. Netflix registered the higher number of new subscriptions, followed by newcomer Disney+ in second place. The new Disney platform accounted for the majority of new accounts created after its release in France in April.
