In 2022, Madrid was the autonomous community in which the Spanish pharmaceutical industry allocated most of its investment in external research and development, with nearly 193 million euros. Catalonia followed, with 169 million euros. In that year, R&D spending in the pharmaceutical industry in Spain was estimated at close to 1.4 million euros.Â
