Espresso House is a coffeehouse chain that sells espresso-based coffee beverages as well as brewed coffee, sandwiches, salads and pastries, among others. The Swedish company operates the coffee-chain throughout Europe and employed on average people in 2019.  The number of stores was by far highest in Sweden, reaching *** stores in 2025. In this year, Espresso House operated ** stores in Finland, ** stores in Denmark and ** stores in Norway.

     In 2018, the coffee-chain Starbucks from the United States expanded to approximately 29 thousand stores worldwide. As of July 2018, 69 of these were located in the Nordic countries. In Norway, there were ** Starbucks stores in operation, followed by ** stores in Denmark, ** stores in Sweden and **** stores in Finland.

 Coffee consumption 

     Among the Nordic countries, the per capita consumption volume of coffee was highest in Finland. In 2017, Fins consumed ** kilograms per person. By comparison, Norway made the second place in the ranking, reaching a per capita consumption volume of *** kilograms of coffee. Close to it was Iceland, followed by Denmark and Sweden.
