According to the source, the Consumer Price Index has been compiled monthly by the Statistics Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications for the purpose of measuring changes of various goods and services purchased by households all over Japan, thereby analyzing the movement of prices in time series. The year for the base and weights of current index is 2015, and in principle the index is compiled, based on retail prices of each municipality and item obtained from the Retail Price Survey, using the Laspeyres-type formula.
Data prior to 2014 comes from previous reports.
