From 2010 to 2021, the sales volume of fish for consumption generally increased in Norway. However, in the years that followed, it decreased slightly again. As of 2023, there were approximately **** million metric tons of fish for consumption sold. In this year, the average volume of fish and fish products consumed in the country amounted to **** kilograms per capita.Â
Domestic fish industry 
Fishery has been an important industry in Norway. The country gains benefit from its long coastline with fjords. Along this coastline, salmon farming is very common. It is the number one farmed animal in Norway, reaching a sales volume of roughly *** million metric tons of salmon in  2023.    
 Fish exporting country 
Norway is one of the largest exporting countries of fish, and the export value of fish and seafood increased strongly in recent years. As of 2017, the exports value from Norwegian fisheries and aquaculture reached around ** billion Norwegian kroner. By contrast, the import value of fresh or frozen fish into the country was significantly lower, amounting to almost *** billion Norwegian kroner.
