Salmon, one of the most farmed animals in Norway, had an increasing sales value in recent years. In the period from 2013 to 2024, it grew to approximately ***Â billion Norwegian kroner. Also, the sales volume of salmon for consumption increased strongly over the same years, reaching almost *** million metric tons.
 In 2018, Trøndlag, a county in the central part of the country, achieved the highest sales volume of slaughtered Atlantic salmon. There, about *** thousand metric tons were sold. Nordland, Troms, Hordaland and Finnmark followed.
In the same year, Trøndelage generated also the highest sales value of slaughtered Atlantic salmon as it amounted to almost ** billion Norwegian kroner. Around ** billion Norwegian kroner were generated in Nordland county, ahead of Troms, Hordaland and Finnmark.
