Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Europe, and like any STI, it is principally transmitted through unprotected sexual intercourse.
Condom use in Europe
The use of condoms, as well as its application as a contraceptive, can be very highly effective in stopping the transmission of STIs from person to person. In 2024, Spain had the highest prevalence in Europe of women aged 15 to 49 years using the male condom as their main form of contraception with almost ** percent doing so. Additionally, Greece and Finland had a ** and ** percent share respectively of women using the male condom for contraception.
