* The military and humanitarian operations in the southern Mediterranean Sea called "Operation Mare Nostrum" (OMN) began on October 18, 2013 in order to deal with the humanitarian emergency of the dramatic migratory flows. The operation supported the already existing patronizing activities carried out within the Italian Navy operation Constant Vigilance, active since 2004.
