In 2004, the number of pharmacists in Slovakia increased by 113 pharmacists (+4.46 percent) since 2003. With 2,648 pharmacists, the number of pharmacists thereby reached its highest value in the observed period. Notably, the number of pharmacists continuously increased over the last years.
A pharmacist is a health professional who is responsible for the supply and distribution of medicine, most of all prescription drugs. Within a pharmacist's responsibilities are also quality control of medicines and advising patients. Pharmacists usually work at community pharmacies or hospital pharmacies. However, pharmacists may also work within the pharmaceutical industry in production or sales, or in specific institutions like prisons, universities, military organizations, etc.
