In 2022, the number of pharmacists in Latvia remained nearly unchanged at around 1,634 pharmacists. In comparison to 2021, the number of pharmacists decreased not significantly by 17 pharmacists (-1.03 percent). A pharmacist is a health professional who is responsible for the supply and distribution of medicine, most of all prescription drugs. Within a pharmacist's responsibilities are also quality control of medicines and advising patients. Pharmacists usually work at community pharmacies or hospital pharmacies. However, pharmacists may also work within the pharmaceutical industry in production or sales, or in specific institutions like prisons, universities, military organizations, etc.
