There were more than 1,000 patients waiting for a kidney transplant in Austria in 2024, the number waiting for a kidney has slightly increased since 2022. The number of patients waiting on procedures has also increased for heart and pancreas transplants.Â
Activity compared to Europe
A rate of lung transplants of 11.8 per million population in 2024 meant that Austria had the second-highest rate in Europe. Additionally, Austria also had a relatively high rate of heart transplants in Europe. Austria had the sixteenth-highest rate of kidney transplantation procedures, while Spain had the highest rate in the EU at more than 85 per million population.
