Of the international students arriving in Sweden between the academic years 2012/13 and 2021/22, the highest number arrived from other EU and EEA members, including Switzerland. Moreover, the number of new international students in the country dropped rapidly in 2020/21 following the outbreak of COVID-19. That year, there were 7,300 international students from EU/EEA countries including Switzerland, and just above 5,000 arriving from countries outside this area. In the 2021/22 academic year however the number of international students from all regions increased again.
