The average price for one cigarette in Germany has only gone up in recent years, reaching around ** euro cents in 2024. This development might be one of the reasons for annually falling daily smoking levels in Germany. If in 1991 the smoking population collectively consumed *** cigarettes a day, that number was halved in three decades.

A determined industry

While imports may be decreasing, the tobacco industry is not one to go up in smoke easily. The tobacco processing industry in Germany maintained revenues above 10 billion euros in the last decade.
